ALFA ROMEO SPIDER: OPENSKY EMOTIONS
Sportiness, Italian panache and quality, these are the three characteristics that have inspired the project since the outset, seeking to exalt the typical pedigree personality of Alfa Romeo cars.
Although the front end is coherent with latest generation Alfas, the lines of the new Spider reflect the continuing evolution of the characteristics of vehicles stemming from the long-lasting alliance between Alfa Romeo and Pininfarina.
The sleek lines of the car seem to invite the observer to follow its entire perimeter exalted by the clean-cut shape and emphasis laid on functional parts, such as the elongated lighting clusters and the generously-scaled air intakes.
The side view is made even more “dynamic” by the concave surface that crosses the side of the vehicle with muscular wheel arches that express its high-performance vocation while maintaining both elegant and lightness.
The rear is lightened by the “flying buttresses” and the rounded design of the trunk and fenders while the roll-bars are camouflaged by bulges lined with light material.
"Alfa Romeo and Pininfarina Style Centers have extended their cooperation inside the car where the sporting look is guaranteed by its general “separate element” type design such as the arm-rest area of the door panel and the band that envelopes the area above the rear bench" explains Guglielmo Cartia, Chief Designer Pininfarina. While maintaining an area with typical Alfa "cannelloni”, the seats are personalized with integration of the head restraint and by side strips linked to the 4-point seat belts and which “lighten” the appearance of the seat.
The Alfa Romeo Spider will be assembled at the San Giorgio Canavese Pininfarina plant where the Alfa Romeo Brera already rolls off the same production lines.
To specifically cater to these new models, the plant has been completely revamped and equipped with state-of-the-art industrial automation.
The assembly and test areas have been redesigned in a single building and two robotized cells have been introduced. The paint finishing zone is also entirely new and uses a closed booth system in a segregated area equipped with fume extraction.
