From the Cisitalia to the 2uettottanta and the Ferrari 458 Italia. Pininfarina celebrates its first 80 years of activity by opening a special Collection that embodies the company’s values in full. It is a “visiting card” with which the company offers its guests a place where the past, present and future merge, communicating all the appeal of the Pininfarina name to the visitor.

The display includes the most significant cars among the hundreds that have written the company’s history, from the Cisitalia to the Giulietta Spider, the Sigma Grand Prix and the Maserati Birdcage 75th. car that was presented at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.

The layout of the exhibition helps the visitor to appreciate the design excellence that has made the Pininfarina name famous all over the world. New iconographic, interactive panels link the various milestones of the past, projecting them into tomorrow, with the perspective spirit typical of an eminently innovative and creative company. A show window allows visitors to admire articles that were developed expressly for the brand’s followers. The new exhibition also highlights the prizes won by the company, the publications that illustrate its history and products, some of the recent objects designed by Pininfarina Extra for its clients, but also exclusive articles that can only be found in the Collection.

Some examples: the Cisitalia 202 Berlinetta of 1947, which marked the international consecration of the founder “Pinin” as a designer, and the first car to become a permanent part of a modern art gallery, the MoMA of New York; the Lancia Florida II of 1957, the founder’s own car; the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider of 1954, the car which, more than any other, represents the watershed between the company’s artisan past and its industrial present; the Fiat 124 Sport Spider, immediately one of the most successful cars built by Pininfarina (200,000 units), was exported in large numbers to America; the Maserati Birdcage 75th, a prototype developed jointly with Maserati and Motorola for Pininfarina’s 75th anniversary, which was judged the “Best Concept” by the American magazine Autoweek, and included among the ten “coolest concept cars” of 2005 by Forbes magazine, and winner of the Louis Vuitton Classic Concept Award in 2005. And the Collection also includes many of the latest style models like the Ferrari 458 Italia and Maserati GranCabrio.

The Pininfarina Collection traces the company’s evolution from its foundation to the present day, revealing constant awareness of its roots and of the culture of the product and its quality. The Collection includes about forty of the masterpieces from the 1940s to the present, displayed in rotation, in a space that is kept deliberately small to focus on the quality rather than the quantity of the objects displayed: period cars, one-off models, small production runs, mass production models, style models and research prototypes. Each model has a particular creative, technical and industrial significance.

The project of the new Collection was developed by the Pininfarina Extra team, which worked on the restyling, focusing on enhancing the company’s identity and the power of the brand
