Hybus, the new eco-friendly bus designed by Pininfarina with funding from the Piedmont Regional government, offers public authorities a way to update their urban vehicle fleets by recycling their old vehicles in a context of environmental and economic sustainability. With the Hybus, Pininfarina proposes the conversion of vehicles currently equipped with Euro 0–1–2 engines into buses with serial hybrid power packs. The first demonstration prototype, built to verify the technology and the project’s industrial feasibility, was designed and developed for the Turin City Council, using a Euro 1 Iveco bus from 1994. But for its very nature, the project can be exported to any municipality that is sensitive to the question of protecting the environment. In 2011, the Hybus won the “Premio all’Innovazione Amica dell’Ambiente” award, a nationwide award given by Legambiente for environment-friendly innovation.
